The D-Day medal commemorates the largest invasion the world has ever known. The massive operation that restored freedom to continental Europe was conducted in June, 1944. This medal was designed to be given to veterans that risked their lives in this endeavor. These brave veterans, long forgotten, were greatly appreciative of receiving this medal, generally from their families and friends who remembered their heroism.
