This commemorative medal was struck for the raising of the "Hunley", a Confederate submarine that was sunk in Charleston Harbor, during one of the first recorded submarine combat missions. The mission was successful, however the submarine itself was not. The reverse of the medal lists the names of the brave officers and crew that went down with Hunley.
Medal is 3" h, medallion is 1 3/4" diameter.
