The Vietnam War Disabled Veterans Commemorative Medal honors the many US veterans who suffered disabilities from serving during the Vietnam War.
The number of severely disabled is 75,000. 23,214 were classified 100% disabled. 5,283 lost limbs, 1,081 sustained multiple amputations. Amputation or crippling wounds to the lower extremities were 300% higher than in WWII and 70% higher than in Korea. 2.4 million veterans were exposed to Agent Orange and have even suffered debilitating illnesses decades after their service.
