This approved 50th Anniversary of WWII Commemorative medal was designed in order to commemorate the retaking of Guam from the Japanese.  At the beginning of WWII the Japanese took Guam from the U.S. Marines.  Later in the war the U.S. Marines recaptured Guam and symbolically raised the Flag over their original damaged barracks.  The reverse has the "official seal" of the 50th Anniversary Committee.
